Christian Turner appointed British High Commissioner to Pakistan

Dr Christian Turner CMG has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Former British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr Christian Turner has been appointed as the UK’s representative in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Dr Turner served as High Commissioner in Kenya from 2012 to 2016 when he was succeeded by Nic Hailey.

Since leaving Kenya, he worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) London Syria Conference Director (2016) as well Director-General and Acting Political Director for the Middle-East and Africa (2016-2017) before his most recent position as the Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser and Deputy National Security Adviser (2017-2019).

He succeeds Mr Thomas Drew CMG who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment and will take up his appointment by December 2019.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Turner said he was “delighted and honoured” to be appointed next British High Commissioner to Pakistan and “excited by opportunity to further strengthen the close ties” between the two countries.
