On Friday 21 June, Children from Nanyuki Community Rugby paid a courtesy call on Colonel Paul ’Shove’ Gilby to thank him for the continuing support of the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK).

Colonel Gilby, who is himself a rugby player and boxer who previously took part in the Diani Beach Rugby with a squad from the British Peace Support Team (BPST) in 2016 and 2017, pledged to continue BATUK’s support which will include funding for a rugby tournament in Mombasa next month.

Present when the children were presenting photographs to the Commander were members of BATUK’s Senior Management including Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Adjutant (ADJ), Staff Officer Level 2 Military (SO2), Command Support Systems (CSS) and Rugby Officer as well as the Chief Engineer (CE).

Thanks to the exposure they have been getting from their travels funded by BATUK, SAAB, SDL, TRF and Nanyuki Children’s Charitable Trust, the children have scholarship opportunities in high schools across Kenya. So far 52 Boys and Girls have benefited from these rugby scholarships.
