The British government have updated their travel advice for Kenya with changes made to the kidnapping section to add factual information referencing an incident in April 2019.
Cuban Doctors Assel Herera Correa and Landy Rodriguez, along with their security escorts, were on their way to work at the Mandera referral hospital when they were kidnapped at 9am on 12 April and taken into Somali territory.
The updated information relating to kidnapping, which references this incident, reads:
“On 12 April 2019 two Cuban doctors were kidnapped in Mandera north-east Kenya. Kenyan police suspect Al-Shabaab were behind the attack.”
