Around 50 personnel and dependents from the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) joined the runners in the 20th Lewa Safaricom Marathon on Saturday (29 June).

BATUK fielded entrants in both the half and full marathons as well as supporting the event with various water stations and other logistical responsibilities. They were joined by staff from the British High Commission in Nairobi who also fielded a team.

The runners were among more than 1,400 runners from 20 different countries taking part in the event at 5,500ft above sea level, which has raised $7m for charities and wildlife conservation projects since 2000.

BATUK said described it as an “amazing event that was a great challenge for all involved.”
