Kenyan wildlife conservationist and television presenter Saba Douglas-Hamilton has been nominated as Pioneer of the Year in the Everywoman in Travel Awards for her ongoing dedication to protecting endangered wildlife, particularly in Africa.

As manager of the Elephant Watch Camp in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve and Special Projects Director for Save The Elephants, she has created long-term change and in 2008 she supported Merlin (Medical Emergency Relief International) after post-election violence erupted in Kenya.

Saba has also shared her knowledge and experience through a wide range of television and radio projects as well as a speaking tour in the UK.

Among the other nominees for this year’s award are University of Cambridge classicist Mary Beard and Belinda Bennett, the first black woman to captain a cruise ship.
