The UK High Commission team said farewell to Sarah Montgomery OBE on Friday ahead of her departure from Kenya following a promotion.
Before joining the UK Civil Service in 2007, Sarah worked as a researcher in the House of Commons and subsequently held roles as Head of the DfID Ukraine team, Senior DfID Representative to the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction team, in the UK Government’s Stabilisation Unit on Libya and Syria, as well as private secretary to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Between 2015 and 2017 she was Head of DFID Iraq based in Baghdad.
Sarah joined the Kenya office as Deputy Head in October 2017, replacing Pete Vowles.
Her DfID colleagues held a goodbye party on 9 May to wish her good luck on her new role.
Tweeting following her send off, Sarah said it had been a “privilege to serve” and was “proud of our achievements in fighting poverty and supporting the UK, especially in the area of disability inclusion.”
She also thanked UK High Commissioner Nic Hailey and DfID Kenya Head Julius Court for their “support and leadership”.
Julius Court described her as “terrific” and said they “ran out of warm words”.
