Yesterday, Kenyans in the UK and back home celebrated a double victory in the London Marathon with Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei winning their respective races.
Among those watching the race in London were Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland and Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Sport Amina Mohamed.
Tweeting about the event, CS Mohamed said: “It was absolutely magical to witness Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgey cross the finish line to win the London Marathon 2019 titles in London. Our approach to sports management remains firmly anchored on the athletes. “
Also cheering on his fellow Kenyans was High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Espipisu.
Father-to-be Prince Harry made an unexpected appearance at the finish line to congratulate the winners.
Back in Kenya, Deputy British High Commissioner Susie Kitchens hosted an event guests treated to a big screen showing the race.
Global CEO of Tusk, Charlie Mayhew used his Twitter account to congratulate the Kenyan winner on “another impressive win today in London,” adding that his is hoping to welcome him back at Lewa for June’s Safaricom Marathon.
