A 19 year old from West Sussex is organising a charity gig in Chichester to help fund her summer trip to Kenya with Voluntary Service Overseas.
Mae Lavender, who is currently on a gap year before going to study sociology at the University of Durham, needs to raise £1,500 to make the trip. She is hoping tomorrow’s gig, at Chichester’s La Havana will help her achieve her target.
Tickets will be £5 on the door and Mae is hoping for an audience of around a hundred on the night.
She will be travelling International Citizen Service and Voluntary Service Overseas to work for three months in Makueni County in Kenya from June to August 2019, working with local volunteers on community projects and living with a Kenyan family.
Recent volunteers have helped local young people in Wote, Makueni, to start their own businesses.
The gig, which begins at 8pm will feature local performers Dutch Criminal Record, Our Propaganda, Lobster Pot and Dan Coates, who are all donating their services for free.
At the time of writing, Mae has reached almost 70 per cent of her total and if you would like to support her fundraising, you can do so via her JustGiving page.
