Scottish charity volunteer discusses her Kenyan experience in vlog

A 27-year-old social entrepreneur who grew up on South Uist, in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides has discussed her experience of volunteering in Kenya for a new Rural Youth Project vlog.

27-year-old Gemma Marie MacKinnon, an Occupational Therapist who describes herself as having “a passion for addiction recovery in both the UK and East Africa” has been volunteering in Kenya for over ten years.

She was awarded the Young Scot of the Year Unsung Hero award in 2014 for setting up and managing the St Jerome’s Centre in Kenya and she is fluent in Swahili.

In the vlog, Gemma discusses her passion for rural Kenya, her rural upbringing on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides and why she has a love and passion for the island’s rural heritage.
