A Kenyan youngster called Lawrence, who was spotted in Nairobi herding cattle wearing a self-made Mesut Özil shirt bearing the German footballer’s name written in felt tip, has received a surprise gift from Arsenal winger.

Sports journalist Eric Njiru shared a photo of the young Kenyan fan online, and tagged in both the 2014 German World Cup winner and his club’s Twitter account which helped make the post go viral.

He captioned the image with: “I saw this kid today grazing in the streets of Nairobi – a city without really grass for cows.

“He told me he loves Mesut Özil so much (You can see his shirt). Maybe one day this can reach Ozil and get a real Arsenal shirt.”

The post caught the attention of the midfielder who was moved by what he saw and decided to send Lawrence a very special gift of two signed Arsenal jerseys and a pair of boots.

Ozil tweeted that he had been touched by the image and after seeing the youngster with his present, he added: “it’s so heartwarming to see him and his brothers happy.”
