Michael Ryan has been named as the Irish casualty in the Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has posted a message of condolence on Twitter in response to the Ethiopian Airlines crash which killed all 157 on board, including Irish national Michael Ryan.

“Our thoughts tonight are with families of all those lost in the Ethiopian Airlines crash, including Irish engineer Michael Ryan. Michael was doing life-changing work in Africa with the World Food Programme. Deepest sympathies to family, colleagues & friends,” he Tweeted.

Mr Ryan was working as an engineer for the World Food Programme (WFP) at the Kutupalong camp for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, the agency has said. Executive Director David Beasley has said that Michael was among seven members of the World Food Programme who had lost their lives in the plane crash.
