The 3rd biennial Gathimba Edwards Foundation dinner on Saturday evening has raised just over £50k for the Aberdeen based charity.
Thanks to the businesses and 400 guests who supported the event at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel, 32 Kenyan families will be provided with support to start up their own businesses.
In addition to the 300 Kenyan children whose education is supported by the charity, the money raised on Saturday will enable them to reduce the 99 Kenyan children currently waiting for assistance.
Closer to home, the charity are going to make a £2,500 contribution to the Neil Jaffrey Award that is this year aiming to build a specialist sensory outdoor play area and also provide equipment for little Evie and her family in Aberdeenshire. This injection of funds will bring this total to within £3,392 of the £10,000 required.
Altogether, the last three GEF dinners raised an amazing £141,435 and the next will take place on Saturday 20 February 2021.
On their Facebook page, the charity said: “All of this incredible support from so many people means that more children in this world will wake up tomorrow with more hope. For that, we, the children of Kenya and our little hero Evie are forever grateful.”
