On Friday, Kenyan Cabinet secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma and Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo met with UK Minister of Defence Gavin Williamson for bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Over the weekend, climate change was also discussed at the conference with CS Juma explaining how ethnic land disputes were flaring as Lake Turkana dries up.

Exasperating the situation, droughts in the Turkana basin are also threatening the livelihoods of half a million people.

“So it is not a surprise that we’re beginning to see analyses saying that perhaps one of the major conflicts we are going to see is water wars,” she said.
