UK High Commissioner Nic Hailey has confirmed that authorities believe at least one British national was among the fatalities during yesterday’s terrorist attack on the DusitD2 complex in Nairobi.
It has been reported that the deceased many be a British and South African dual national. It is also believed that another Briton was injured during the attack and is receiving medical treatment.
In a video message released by the High Commission, Mr Hailey said that his team had been working throughout the night to support the Kenyan authorities as they respond to this attack, and to offer all the help they can to British nationals who may have been caught up in it.
He went on to say: “I’m very sad to confirm that we believe at least one British national has been killed in the attack and we are providing support to his family and friends at this very difficult time and our thoughts are with them.”
Mr Hailey also advised that the area should be avoided as the operation is still ongoing and the High Commission have recently updated travel advice for Kenya in response to yesterday’s attack.
