Princess Beatrice has enjoyed some quality time with her new boyfriend during a break in Kenya.

The 30-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew, and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were pictured blissfully strolling hand in hand while on a beach in Lamu as they rang in the New Year.

It is understood Beatrice stayed at her boyfriend’s family home, which was built from scratch by Edo’s mother, Nikki Shale, and his late stepfather, Christopher Shale, a close associate of David Cameron.

Set on an isolated tip of the island, the house is one of just a handful in the area and near an unspoilt beach stretching for miles. Outgoing Question Time host David Dimbleby also owns a property on the island.

The couple are believed to have arrived separately shortly after Christmas and later joined by family and friends.

On New Year’s Eve, they are understood to have spent most of the evening celebrating in his parents’ luxury villa with other house guests.  Shortly before midnight, they joined a small party at Kizingo, home to the only bar in the area. Edo’s family, particularly his mother, are close friends with the couple who manage the hotel and Beatrice was reportedly welcomed like an old friend.

The Lamu archipelago, where in 2015 Edo proposed to his ex and mother of his child, Chinese-American architect Dara Huang, is a well-preserved enclave of Swahili culture where dhows and donkeys are the main modes of transport. Following safety concerns cited by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, tourist numbers declined significantly, but now the travel advisory for the area has been lifted, it is firmly back on the tourist map.
