Aberdeen based Kenyan charity the Gathimba Edwards Foundation have opened entries for their annual Haddo House Cross Country event which will be held on January 27.

Founded by Aberdeen’s Myles Edwards and Kenyan Gideon Gathimba, the charity will hold the event for a fourth year at the historic building near Ellon in Aberdeenshire.

The funds raised through this year’s races will be used to support the charity’s work in Kenya like last year’s which raised hundreds for the Cheerful Special Needs Children’s Home in Kenya.

This helped provide the children’s home with maize flour for a year, as well as supporting the family of a Nairobi man recovering from major surgery.

Races are planned for all ages and abilities, competing in a relaxed atmosphere.

Children aged 5 to 8 can try a trail over a distance of less than a mile, while older boys and girls will compete for their prizes over longer distances based on their age.

Adults have the choice of the three-mile or six-mile route around the grounds of the stately home and country park.

Entry forms are available on the GEF website and on the day people will also be able to register up to 30 minutes before each race start time. The charity are also seeking around 20 volunteers to marshal and help with registrations and for more information, please email haddo@gathimbaedwardsfoundation.org.
