Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is facing six months apart from her Army Major boyfriend who is set to return to Afghanistan for duty with the Parachute Regiment after completing Exercise Askari Storm with the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK).
The 42-year-old actress and former Hear’Say singer has been dating Scott Ratcliff for five months and despite the looming long-distance separation, she is resolute that their relationship will survive the strain.
Speaking at the Military Awards last week, she said: “He’s due to go back to Afghanistan next year for six months. It is tough, but I know we can make it work and we will be fine.
“He’s just got back from a training exercise in Kenya, so tonight was the first time we have seen each other in weeks,” she added.
Scott trained at Sandhurst Military Academy and has been in the elite 3 Para for almost a decade.
A keen fundraiser for military good causes, Scott has previously raised thousands for injured soldiers by completing the Great North Run in under two hours in full kit and a backpack weighing 40kg.
Kym and Scott began dating earlier this year, weeks after she split from her long-term boyfriend Matt Baker, after being introduced by her Coronation Street co-star Antony Cotton.
