Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand is currently enjoying Kenyan hospitality on a trip organised by Guinness as part of their #FansMadeOfMore campaign.

Today, will join local football teams at a training camp in Ruaraka today before meeting fans at Uhuru Gardens.

On Sunday, he will get together with the Fans Made of More winners for a Guinness Fanzone afternoon of games including his former team Man United facing Liverpool in the Premier League.

At a press conference at the Villa Rosa Kempinski on Friday (December 14), Rio said he was excited to finally be in Kenya and praised Kenya for making it to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, adding that it would be a great opportunity for Kenyan players to get the attention of watching scouts.

“Kenya has great talent when you consider that Victor Wanyama plays in England. It is also exciting that they have qualified for the Nations Cup after such a long time. This is a great opportunity for local players to be spotted and signed by European clubs,” he said.

“I am looking forward to doing as much as possible while I’m here; meeting as many football fans as possible. I need recommendations on what Kenyan food to try out. And I’m looking forward to seeing some animals in the park,” the former United star added.

Guinness Brand Manager Nduku Wamakau said they are excited to have brought Ferdinand to Kenya.

She said the United legend will interact with 12 winners of Ksh 1 million each and hopes his presence can inspire other young players as well.
