A British Airways flight bound for Nairobi sparked fears for its safety and those on board after it was spotted circling Canterbury with its wheels down earlier today.

The flight took off from Heathrow around an hour late at 11.23am and was due to land in Kenya just before 8pm UK-time (11pm Kenya time).

According to British Airways, the plane had a ‘minor technical issue’ and was returning to Heathrow as a precaution. Reports on social media suggested the issue was the plane’s nose gear which appeared to have become stuck after take off.

The plane needed to circle the area at around 8,000ft, before flying over The English Channel to dump fuel.

A BA spokesman said: “The aircraft has a minor technical issue and is returning to Heathrow purely as a precaution.

“We apologise to customers for the disruption to their journey and we aim to have them on the way again soon.”
