Lord Ahmad visits UKaid supported RefuSHE Centre in Nairobi

During his Kenya visit to attend the Blue Economy Conference, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon took the opportunity to meet some of the female survivors from conflict zones across East Africa being supported by the RefuSHE Centre in Nairobi on Monday. 

RefuSHE specialises in identifying and protecting unaccompanied and separated refugee children and youth, especially girls, young women, as well as their children living in Kenya and has received support from UKaid’s Amplify: collaborative challenge fund through the Department for International Development.

Launched in 2008, after co-founders Anne Sweeney and Talyn Good identified that the most vulnerable girls and young women often fell through the gaps of protection and became invisible, RefuSHE has since served thousands and remainthe only organisation dedicated to fefugee girls n Kenya.

Tweeting about his visit, Lord Ahmad said: “This inspirational organisation is empowering refugee women with education and language and technical skills to help them rebuild their lives.”
