Yesterday morning, Irish Ambassador Dr Vincent O’Neill paid a courtesy call to Kisumu County Deputy Governor Mathews Owili and some members of the County Executive Committee to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
When he was named as the running mate for Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o in May last year, Owili, who hails from Nyakach, said he was ready for the job and promised to walk hand in hand with Nyong’o, raise the bar and play his role in good governance.
The Irish Ambassador is currently on a short tour of Kisumu, a Kenyan port city on Lake Victoria. It is known for lakeside viewpoints at Dunga Hill Camp and Hippo Point, the Impala Sanctuary which shelters herds of impalas and zebras, and its animal orphanage which is home to wildlife like cheetahs and baboons.
In the southwest of the county, Ruma National Park has tall cliffs, roan antelope and birdlife.
Kisumu Museum in the city is also worth a visit to see the artefact displays related to the people of the Nyanza Province. Kibuye and Oile Markets are also popular tourist spots along with and the nearby Kit Mikaye and Ndere Island National Park.
