Yesterday, Irish Ambassador Dr Vincent O’Neill was among the guests celebrating the third anniversary of the Orione Community Training Centre (OCTC) in Kajiado County which has been supported with funding through Irish Aid and the Embassy’s mirco projects scheme.
The OCTC was founded in 2005 in Ongata Rongai by the Catholic Congregation of Sons of Divine Providence, to promote the life and integration of people with intellectual disabilities.
The centre works in three areas; education, rehabilitation and vocational training in farming with children and young people who have conditions including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism. Most of the sixty students come from financially disadvantaged families.
Their conditions leave them vulnerable to discrimination and stigmatization from the society which limits their chances to access better health services, schools and employment opportunities like any other member of the society.
