Nine people have been killed and at least twenty injured when a bus and truck collided early on Wednesday on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway between Emali and Sultan Hamud in Makueni County.
The head-on collision involved a bus, belonging to Mombasa-based BusCar company, and a truck resulted in a fireball that incinerated both vehicles.
Photographs published on the Daily Nation website show a blackened shell of a truck on its side with wreckage strewn around it.

Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed that injured had been taken to Kilome Nursing Home for treatment.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, road accidents kill between 3,000 and 13,000 Kenyans every year.
