Irish Embassy hosts Macharia Kamau and Sonja Hyland for foreign affairs and trade talks

Yesterday, Macharia Kamau, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations, was a guest of Ambassador Dr Vincent O’Neill at the Irish Embassy in Nairobi where they were joined by Irish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sonja Hyland, to discuss Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade engagement and commitment to Kenya and Eastern Africa.

Macharia Kamau is a development and humanitarian expert and a social and environmental advocate who serves as the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations on El Niño and Climate.

In addition, he is the Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He was instrumental in the development of the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as Co-Chair and Co-Facilitator of the respective intergovernmental negotiations. In 2012, he was awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear by the Kenyan Government.
