On Thursday (8 February), UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Nic Hailey and Irish Ambassador Dr Vincent O’Neill, joined fellow diplomats from Europe at a farewell breakfast hosted by outgoing Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Amina Chawahir Mohamed Jibril.

As the first woman to head the Foreign Affairs Ministry, CS Mohamed has seen 50 global leaders visit Kenya and overseen sixteen key summits and fifteen major conferences held in the country during her tenure.

Tweeting after the event, CS Mohamed said: “Bilateral relations between Kenya and European Countries have been on an upward trajectory as evidenced by the exchange of high level visits, both to Nairobi and to European Capitals.”

The Irish Embassy thanked CS Mohamed for the invitation to her farewell breakfast and “for all her support to the Irish Foreign Ministry and the Embassy over the past 4 years.”

“Looking forward to cooperation with Young Scientists Kenya in your new CS Education role,” they added.

CS Mohamed is moving to the Education Ministry where she will oversee the ongoing departmental curriculum changes and continue to push for necessary reforms from where her predecessor Fred Matiang’i left off.
