The Post Office has ranked the Kenyan resort of Mombasa as the beach destination which is easiest on the wallet in their annual Long Haul Holiday report.

Overall, the coastal city has risen one place to third with only Tokyo (1st) and Cape Town (2nd) being more affordable overall.

The study compares the price of ten holiday essentials — from a cup of coffee and bottle of local lager to a three-course evening meal.

Kenya is named as a great-value winter sun option, offering safari breaks as well as beach holidays.

Long Haul Holiday Report 2017

Overall, the report found that while prices may be a bit higher in some long haul resorts and cities this year, this 10th annual Long Haul Holiday Report from Post Office Travel Money delivered welcome news.

It found local price cuts in restaurants, bars and shops mean the cost to UK holidaymakers will actually be lower in 40 per cent of the 30 destinations surveyed by long haul holiday specialist Travelbag for the report.
