Yesterday, the dead bodies of an elderly Swiss couple were found dumped by the side of a country road in Mombasa.

According to Kisauni police chief Christopher Rotich, the bodies of Werner Borner Paul, 70, and Marriane Hornel were found in the Kiembeni area by pedestrians on Sunday morning, wrapped in a blanket.

They reportedly had severe injuries, with one body found with deep cuts on the head. It is believed they were killed using sharp and blunt objects.

Regional police chief Larry Kiyeng revealed they had flown into Kenya on Saturday and had planned to stay at a private residence in Nyali, an upmarket estate in Mombasa.

A gardener at the couple’s Links Road home has been arrested in connection with the murder, but Rotich said they are still pursuing a caretaker and night guard who are on the run.

It is believed the Swiss couple had cash when they returned from Switzeland on Saturday, and police are treating the incident as an inside job.
