As many as 39 people are feared dead after an oil tanker exploded on a road in Naivasha.
The accident occurred on the road connecting Nairobi and Nakuru, about an hour’s drive north-west of the capital although the authorities have not yet announced the official number of casualties.

One local newspaper reported that at least 30 people had died, while another says 11 vehicles were involved. One Twitter user claims the casualties were as high as 39.
The Kenya Red Cross tweeted that the tanker had appeared to lose control before crashing into other vehicles, followed by an explosion.

One eyewitness Tweeted that the fuel tanker lost control, ran into 5 vehicles and bursts into flames along Nakuru Nairobi highway, describing it as the “worst accident ever”.
Emergency service vehicles have been in attendance at the scene.
