Madonna wrongly criticised for mistaking Kenyan and Malawi flags

Global pop icon Madonna has been criticised after she posted an online tribute to her adopted children’s home nation Malawi on her Instagram account.

A number of publications wrongly claimed that the American singer had used the flag of Kenya instead of Malawi’s, but although they look similar, she did indeed use the correct one.

The flags in Madonna’s posts are clearly different.

The image in question was posted after the star spent time at an orphanage in Mchinji, where she shared a photograph of herself surrounded by children, captioning it: “A Warm Welcome at Home of Hope Orphanage in Michingi Malawi the Warm Heart of Africa”.

Madonna, 57, illustrated the post with Malawi’s black, red and green striped flag emojis and although the images are very small, it is clearly not Kenya’s flag she had used.

The post prompted one of her followers to reply: “Should have educated her about the flag.”
