Airdrie Academy, a secondary school located in North Airdrie has raised £16,000 for Kenyan based UK charity Vision Africa.
The school has a proud history of over 150 years of service to the local community and has been holding a number of fundraising activities to generate funds for the Vision Africa, which provides support for disadvantaged children and young people in Kenya
In March, the school ran a very successful 24 hour Sportathon which saw younger pupils playing sport during the day. They were followed by their parents and families in the evening and into the night until 9.00am the next morning. Then, the school’s older pupils continued with various sports which managed to raise over £1300 for the charity.
Another sport themed event was a charity walkathon.
Their last big fundraising event for Vision Africa was their Grand raffle, with prizes including £500 cash, a colour television, luxury overnight and Spa treatments at the Westerwood Hotel and a year’s supply of Irn Bru.
