A delegation from the British Armed Forces arrived in Mogadishu on Saturday (9 January) to discuss counter-terrorism efforts with the Somali Defence ministry.

The British delegation is led by Lieutenant General John Larimer who discussed the importance of integrating regional militia forces into the Somali National Army in order to neutralise the threat from al-Shabaab, with Somali Defence minister Andikadir Ali Diini.

The two countries share ties based on mutual operations on the areas of security.

Officials also underlined the UK Ministry of Defence’s strong commitment to supporting both AMSIOM and the development of the Somali security forces.

“We have discussed on how they can support the Somali National Army and they vowed to support the army to win the war against terror.”
