Author Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye dies

87 year old British born Kenyan author, Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye has died at her home in Nara.

Macgoye, who passed away yesterday (Tuesday 1 December 2015), distinguished herself as a writer of poetry, novels and children’s stories, and has been ranked alongside David Maillu, Charles Mangua, Mwangi Gicheru, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Muthoni Likimani among others.

Macgoye wrote Coming to Birth (1986), which won the Sinclair Prize for fiction in 1986 and A Farm Called Kishinev (2005) which was awarded the Jomo Kenyatta prize by the Kenya Publishers Association.

She is survived by her four children and seven grandchildren.
