Arnold Schwarzenegger takes aim to terminate ivory poaching

Terminator star and former California senator Arnold Schwarzenegger has put his considerable muscle behind a campaign against ivory poaching in a video which shows him blowing up an elephant tusk.

“We are extremely grateful Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined the 96 Elephants campaign, and we are hopeful that his global following of fans will become allies to stop the killing, stop the trafficking and stop the demand of ivory.”

WCS campaign director,

John Calvelli

The 96 elephants campaign, led by The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is intended to highlight the daily death toll of elephants worldwide by ivory poachers.

In Kenya, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, China, United States, United Arab Emirates and Thailand, in excess of 42 tonnes of illegal ivory have been destroyed so far this year.

But the WCS is worried a House interior appropriations bill could roll back current US regulations which could thwart efforts by the Fish and Wildlife Service to put an end to the illegal trade.
