In tonight’s episode of the 2005 series Top Gear on BBC BRIT, after originally conceding that the BMW 130i was more fun and seemed faster on a dry track, Jeremy Clarkson sees whether its lap time could be beaten by a Volkswagen Golf R32.
Richard Hammond and James May argue about the state of modern-day driving, which sparks a time trial showdown at Prescott Hill Climb Course, pitting an Austin-Healey Sprite representing a mostly middle-aged classic car owners club, against a modified Peugeot 306 backed by a more youthful group. The Stig takes the two around, but will the Sprite defeat the showy and stereo-laden 306?
Also tonight, Richard Hammond tests the Mazda MX-5, before he and Clarkson compare the different drive-train types of cars (such as four-wheel drive) to animals.
Tonight’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment features Little Britain star David Walliams and comedian Jimmy Carr.
In the final section of the show, Clarkson travels to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California to see if he could match a time set on the Playstation game Gran Turismo 4 in real life.
Top Gear: Series 7, Episode 6 is scheduled for broadcast tonight (26 October) at 20:00 on BBC BRIT (DStv channel 120) with repeat showings on Tuesday 27 November at 12:15, Saturday 31 October at 07:30 and 12:05 and Sunday 4 November at 04:00.
