In tonight’s first episode of the fifth series of Inspector Morse prequel series, Endeavour, it’s 1968 and life has moved on for Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) and the old Oxford City Police. He’s been promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant, and is now a member of the newly formed Thames Valley constabulary.
When a famous international thief tries to steal a Faberge egg from an auction, the newly promoted Morse and Fred Thursday (Roger Allam) are called in to investigate.
The case leads to the gruesome murders of an academic and a gangster, and Morse is convinced the deaths are the work of the same man. As he struggles with his new responsibilities, he also finds himself forced to mentor a younger partner (Lewis Peek).
In a hark back to less politically correct times, there’s even a new constable on the team, a lairy lad called Fancy who calls women “crumpet” and foolishly tries to chat up WPC Trewlove.
Endeavour: Muse is scheduled for broadcast tonight (7 February) at 21.00 on itvCHOICE (DStv channel 123), with repeat showings on Thursday 8 February at 00.50 and Saturday 10th February at 17.15 and 23.00.
