Strong British showing in the Kilifi Gold Triathlon

The Kilifi Gold Triathlon took place on Saturday afternoon with a strong British representation.

Along with 28 members of the British Army Training Unit (BATUK) taking part, the Department for International Development (DfID) Kenya Head, Pete Vowles also entered.

In soaring temperatures everyone did themselves proud. A special mention to Joe Hines who came fifth in the Woman’s race with BATUK’s Head of Community Engagement Major Peter Barton and Pete Vowles finishing 8th and 19th respectively.

Altogether, BATUK entered five teams in the Team Sprint, with BATUK 2 made up of Jason Smith (swim), Patricia Hughes (cycle) and Andrew Jones (run) finishing in the highest position of 8th.

BATUK 3, with Emma Johnson, Nicola Hurley and Fiona Andrew swimming, cycling and running respectively completed the triathlon in 20th place.

Just four places behind were BATUK 4. Inoke Bainivalu, Buddhiraj Ghale and Sarah Hutchinson swam, cycled and ran to 24th in the final standings.

BATUK 5 (Wana Bainivalu, Allan Cunningham and Lee Edwards) finished 26th with BATUK 1 (Peter Lewis, Peter Rushworth and James Yates) were ranked in 31st place.
