The UK High Commission in Kenya has distributed a message via its text service to reassure British expats that it has “plans in place” during the election period.

The Kenyan Security Service have also used their Telegram channel to urge concerned citizens to call 0800724956 for any security related incidences during the election period. He message also assures “everybody of maximum security and that the elections will be very peaceful,” calling on citizens be “patriotic and responsible.”
While 2013 polls were largely peaceful, it is a decade since a disputed 2007 presidential election led to two months of violence, leaving 1,100 dead and 600,000 displaced.
